What It's Like Being On A Committee...
Being on a committee is a great way to become involved with projects in our chapter of APhA-ASP. Our committee chairs and co-chairs meet with their committee members when discussing projects and ideas for our chapter to participate in. However, not all events involve committee discussions. Generally, participating in a committee takes about an hour of your time every two to four weeks. The bigger the project and the more planning involved, the more time you will spend working individually or as a committee. Our pharmaceutical care projects require the most time in planning. These committees generally have at least five committee members or more to help our chapter plan and execute our goals.
Why Have Committees?
Committees are a great way to ensure that we make good decisions and plans that we are able to carry out. Additionally, many activities are simply too much for one person to spearhead on their own. When several people work on a project together, what may have seemed too hard or even impossible becomes possible. It is also a great way to incorporate different ideas and opinions to help our projects succeed.
Benefits of Being on a Committee
The benefits of being on a committee result from the work put into the committee's project and the pride derived from successfully carrying their plans out. Committee members gain leadership experience, learn how to compromise and incorporate ideas, and how to successfully manage a project from start to finish. All of the experience gained from being on a committee will benefit our members as well as their communities in the future.
