What We Do

The Pharmaceutical Care committee is in charge of planning events related to improving the health of the underserved population of Omaha and the surrounding areas.  This committee is broken down into three sub-committees: 1. Operation Immunization, 2. Operation Diabetes, and 3. Heartburn Awareness Challenge.  Every fall Operation Immunization sets up flu clinics where students help vaccinate the underserved.  In the Spring, Operation Immunization goes to area health fairs to educate people about vaccines they may need, and answers any questions they have about the new vaccines available.  Operation Diabetes works closely with the Omaha chapter of the American Diabetes Association to help raise money for diabetes education and research.  Throughout the year Operation Diabetes also participates in health fairs to educate the public about the risk factors associated with diabetes.  The Heartburn Awareness Challenge participates in health fairs throughout Omaha to educate the public on risk factors associated with heartburn and lifestyle changes that may prevent it from occurring.  The Pharmaceutical Care Committee also coordinates many other projects like the Walgreen's Wellness Tour, educating high school students about pharmacy as a career, and hypertension screening and education.

Projects We're Working On...

Black Family Health and Wellness Fair: March 29.  The Operation Immunization committee will present information about vaccines with Dr. Linda Ohri.  Students can also signed up to be trained to help in one of the following roles: Education Counselor, Cholestec Screener, Navigator, or Blood Pressure Vital Screener.  *More information to follow about the training date and requirements.

    3. Presbyterian Outreach, Caring for the Caregivers Health Fair: April 4. The Heartburn Awareness Challenge booth and hypertension booth will be going to this health fair to present information about heartburn and hypertension.

    4. Sacred Heart Health Fair: April 18. The Operation Immunization committee will present information to elementary students and their parents about recommended vaccines.  Students can also act as Health Fair Guides to lead groups of children to the various booths.

    5. The Diabetes Gala: April 19.  Students will help serve food at the Diabetes Gala and help with an auction to raise money for diabetes research and education in the Omaha area.

    6. Red Cross Blood Drive: April 21 and 22.  The Red Cross will be coming to the Creighton campus.  Students can donate blood to help save lives or volunteer to help at the event.
