Pharmaceutical Care Committee

Committee Chair
Amy Tomjack
Hometown: Ewing, NE
Undergraduate: Creighton University
Favorite Drug: Prevacid 30mg, because it is black and hot pink capsule in color.
Why I got involved: I got involved in the committee in order to educate and promote heartburn awareness
in our students and community. This was a great opportunity to not only become more involved but also provide service
in a way that would help patients and other heath care professionals expand their knowledge on the interesting topic
of heartburn that affects so many people in our world today. I wanted to be part of the journey to enhance others
understanding on heartburn that will hopefully aid others in decreasing instances of heartburn in our community
patients and/or students.
Goals: To help the community become more aware of heartburn causes and prevention methods in order to promote a better
understanding for others who may be affected by or who are interested in heartburn.

What is the Heartburn Awareness Challenge?
The National Heartburn Alliance, Procter & Gamble, and APhA-ASP have partnered to help American’s get "Heartburn Smart". More than 50 million Americans suffer the symptoms of heartburn more than twice a week. Approximately 10% of Americans suffer heartburn symptoms daily and more than a third of all Americans have heartburn on at least an occasional basis. Student pharmacists can help improve the quality of life of heartburn sufferers by presenting information on heartburn, and providing a personal consultation for patients. Student pharmacists have educated 2,394,775 heartburn sufferers across the nation.
