Katy's Kids

What we do:

Katy's Kids is a program where students go into classrooms in their area and do presentations about safety with medications to K-2nd grade.  It is an easy conversation/interaction with a video and does not require tremendous public speaking skills.  Plus it is a great opportunity to interact with kids and build your resume.  Sound fun?  I think so!

Hometown: Bandung, Indonesia
Undergraduate: California State University, Fresno Class of 2007 B.S. Environmental Health Science, B.A. Chemistry
Why I got involved: I had a personal experience of a child thinking that Ibuprofen was candy. I realized how dangerous and common this is and that kids need to be educated about medication safety. I love kids as well, and I think that it is a great program to be a part of.
Favorite drug: Nexium 40mg. It’s the purple pill!!?

Undergraduate: Creighton Class of 2010 B.S. Biology
Why I got involved: I love kids and I love pharmacy ? I very much enjoyed participating last year and wanted to be more involved with the program this year.
Favorite drug: Dicyclomine 20mg caps and Prevacid 30mg caps… they are both really pretty! Ha!

Committee Goals: We hope to expand Katy’s Kids. One of our projects for this year is getting the pre-pharmacy club involved. We think this is a great way to get undergrads more involved in pharmacy before they have entered professional school. We hope that we can get people as excited about Katy’s Kids as we are!
